My Comics Will Be At San Diego Comic-Con!

Hello gentle reader! I’m just making this quick post to announce that my collection of abstract comics/zines, TABE Collection vol. 1 will be available for sale at the Sand Diego Comic-Con, July 12-15! You can buy them at the totally awesome SAWDUST PRESS booth located at table P-06 in Small Press. In case you didn’t know, Sawdust Press is the publisher responsible for releasing a rad anthology I was a part of called “I Was a Teenage Gargoyle.” If you haven’t already, you should pick up a copy of that too, as well as all the other fine goods available at the booth. I’ll post more information as I get it, but make sure to follow my Twitter account (located to the right of this post) in order to get the most up to date information on my art and workings. Thanks for reading!

New Comics for Sale, Graduation, and More!

Hi all! I’ve been extremely busy these past couple months, so I just wanted to give a shout out to everyone who visits this site and give you a little glimpse into what’s been going on in my life. First, as you can tell from the headline, I’m now making available for online purchase the two works I debuted at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art Festival in April, JETTY #2  and TABE COLLECTION.

To purchase and check out more info on these works, please visit my ON-SITE STORE ;)

In other news, I’ve finally graduated from the Center for Cartoon Studies! Yes, after two hard years of work I now have a Master of Fine Arts degree in Cartooning. The graduation ceremony was short and sweet, and I’m glad (and a little sad) to be moving on to the next stage in my life. I want to give a special shout-out and thank you to all the students, faculty, and staff at CCS, ESPECIALLY Steve Bissette, Kriota Willberg, and R. Sikoryak, all of whom took me under their wings and showed me the ropes by allowing me to be their teachers’ assistant this final school year. I want to also thank my girlfriend, Maia, for driving a long ways to come and get me in Vermont. And now for some pictures.

Finally, on a somber note, during my last stretch at CCS I heard unfortunate news that one of my best friends had passed away, an old wily pug named Julius. I would like to dedicate this blog-post to him and give a special thanks to my parents for taking care of him in his old age and for helping me to achieve my artist and professional goals. Here is a picture of Julius just after unwrapping his present from his final Christmas on this Earth.

APRIL 23RD, 2000  –  MARCH 5TH, 2012

Hey all! Just making a quick announcement that I’ll be exhibiting (aka selling my comics and zines) at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art Festival this weekend in NYC! The fest will be going from Saturday to Sunday, 11am to 6 pm at 69th Regiment Armory

I’ll be exhibiting with my friend and fellow New College of Florida alumni, Morgan Boecher, who will be selling a collection of his awesome comic about being trans male, What’s Normal Anyway.  You can (and should) read an online version of Morgan’s work HERE!

I will be selling an assortment of various comics and publications new and old, including (but not limited to):

JETTY #2 and TABE COLLECTION (both debuting at MoCCA):

You can see a previous post I made about these titles HERE! and read an awesome review of them at Midnight Fiction HERE!

I’ll still have copies of JETTY #1, which you can check out HERE!

And of course, I’ll be selling LIGHT RIOT: DEPARTURE, of which I recommend you read this flattering review of in the Comics Bulletin HERE!

This is an awesome anthology featuring my work and recently release by SAWDUST PRESS. You should totally check it out HERE!

PLUS I’ll have a number of odds and ends with me and will be included in at least two other new anthologies that will be floating around the festival!

So, in conclusion, if you’ll happen to be in the NYC area this coming weekend (April 28-29, 2012), please come out to MoCCA Fest. It’s bound to be a blast!

A Preview of My Work !

Hi all! I figured I’d give you a sneak peek at the two main projects I’ve been working on for the past couple months: JETTY and TABE! Both will be debuting at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art Festival in NYC on April 28-29, and then will be available for online purchase.

First, JETTY #2 is finished and I’m in the process now of printing copies up. This issue is  a little more linear than the first, containing two complete stories. I’ve been working really hard on it, and I hope readers enjoy it and consider it a step up from the first issue :)

A two page spread from JETTY #2.

Second is the TABE collection! Since about Nov. of 2011 I’ve been making these small abstract comic-art-‘zines  under the moniker of TABE and giving them to my friends around town. Now I finally have enough issues for a proper collection: ten ‘zines in all. As you can see in the picture below, they are all different, and some are folded in radically different ways than what people generally think of when they think of a ‘zine or mini-comic. This started off pretty much as a side project, but has blossomed into something that I’m really excited about.

The TABE collection, in full.

Okay, that’s it for now, check out the pics and let me know what you think! More info on my appearance at MoCCA Fest in a future post!

Special Winter Update!

Yo! Just want to show everyone some projects I’ve been getting into!  As some of you may know, I’m currently an MFA candidate at the Center for Cartoon Studies, frenziedly working on my thesis! What I’ve been posting on this site has been mostly sketches/single images of art, but what I’ve been working on for the past five months has been a brand new one-man-anthology called JETTY!

Yes, I am starting a new comic series and the first issue will be released in February! I’m not doing any pre-orders for this one, but I figure I’d give everyone a sneak-peek just the same.

I’m showing here the cover, plus a few promotional patches (featuring two of my favorite writers, Virginia Woolf and Lynd Ward, in case you’re wondering). Included also is the cover to a super-secret side project I’m working on called TABE (expected to be released way later in the year)!

As for me, I’m heading to Florida and Tennessee to see some family and friends during my winter break. But don’t worry, I’ll continue to update new art to LIGHTRIOT.COM every Mon, Wed, and Fri as usual! Please enjoy the previews and be on the lookout for JETTY #1 in February 2012!
