IT’S MY BIRTHDAY: 2013 UPDATE

Please tell me: what is the nature of time and reason? Yes, today is my birthday, marking the two year anniversary of this sketch-blog. As you can see, way back when, I made a promise to update with new content every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. So far I have kept true to my guarantee: hope you’ve been enjoying my efforts.

So what’s with the life? Well, I moved from White River Junction,Vermont to Carrboro, North Carolina, and I’ve been enjoying it very much. Been teaching at a local spot, giving guest lectures at the University of North Carolina, and now have a regular feature in the fine arts magazine Au Courant (be sure to check out the back issues).

In the past year my work has been exhibited at the Museum for Comics and Cartoon Art Festival in NYC, been published by both the National Cartoonists Society and the Swedish Comics Association, and received a great review on the High Low blog. Needless to say, I’m enthused and grateful.

Current projects include making more pieces to hang on walls, teaching classes on the exploration of the inner recesses of consciousness through art, and beginning work on a new graphic novel tentatively titled FUTURING PEOPLE (you know, because the future is a verb). In fact, beginning next week this blog will be showcasing preliminary sketches for my FUTURING PEOPLE work. The style is a bit different, but I hope you enjoy the cohesiveness of it all. Please leave as much feedback as you care to.

FYI, If you happen to be in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area tonight, please join me  at This & That Gallery (118c East Main St, Carrboro) for my birthday celebration/opening reception. If you can’t make it tonight, stop by any time for the rest of the month to see some of my latest works. As always, the best way to keep up with my current going ons/exhibits/workshops is to follow me on Twitter: @rioaubrytaylor. Please enjoy your life!

Mario, your work is amazing and I’m so glad that you’re doing what you love! That is a beautiful thing.. Once Nick and I buy a house (within the next year), I may hit you up to buy some artwork!
Happy birthday and congrats for the great blog, old friend.
