Special Sunday Update: Comics Camp!
Greetings! This past week I had the pleasure of traveling down to Manchester, NH in order to help out with Marek Bennett’s awesome Comics Camp, hosted by the Currier Museum of Art. It was a great experience!
The age group of the camp was 10-15. All the students were very dedicated, and extremely motivated workers! During the course of the week Marek showed the kids how to put together their own books from beginning to end, and I gave a talk about my experiences studying cartooning at a grown-up college (yeah right :0). Long-time readers might remember that I’m an MFA candidate at the Center for Cartoon Studies, so this experience was actually part of my summer internship. Be on the look-out for a small comic that I’ll be making to document my thoughts on the experience and don’t forget to check out Marek’s Comics Workshop blog for more pictures and his take on the past week.
Special thanks go out to Marek for graciously showing me the ropes, and also to Steve Bissette, who introduced us and suggested I get as much experience as I can in education. I’ll be assisting Steve in the classrooms of CCS as a teacher’s assistant this fall, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
I like that metaphor… “to show one the ropes”.
