Greetings from your friendly neighborhood Rio!
Greetings! Happy New Year and all that! And happy MLK Day! Astute readers will have realized that I’ve been taking a hiatus from showing sketches/writing on this site for over a month now. This was intentional while I was figuring out the path and process I would like to proceed in for 2014. It’s been a nice break, but time to get on with it, yes?
As some of you may know, since the beginning this blog has been heavy on the images, light on text. For the better part of three years I’ve been posting regular images every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (please feel free to rummage through the “Categories” section and check some out). I’ve now decided to change the format of this blog in favor of something new and exciting:)
I sometimes get people asking me about my time-well-spent and all the things that go into the grueling task of being a professional creator. Starting today I’ve decided to write more and really give a better idea of my process, life, and artistic endeavors. Don’t worry, I’ll still be showcasing sketches and art that I make, but now there will be a lot more :)
So, for starters, how’s life my life? Pretty good. Those of you who follow my Twitter account probably know that I live in Carrboro, NC (a gem of a town!) and that I have many interests including pugs, music, hot sauce, cooperative living, and of course CARTOONING. You also might know that not only do I draw/produce zines and mini-comics, but I also paint/exhibit regularly and give a variety of workshops/presentations with titles such as Meditation and Narrative Art and Mindfulness and the Graphic Novel. I currently live at the Cedar Rock Co-op with a lot of wonderful people and animals who are pretty much the loves of my life :) I spend way too much time reading, and my hours are (currently) completely erratic.
As is evidenced from the new banner at the top of this blog, I’m in the process of revamping the look and organization of lightriot.com. One thing in particular to note is the tab at the top of this site entitled Love, Currently. This is a long-form graphic novel (a comic, duh) that I’ve been working on since last year and publishing in the pages of Au Courant magazine. I now have the first eight pages available for reading and am hard at work on writing/drawing more! Please check it out, and if you like it, SHOW YOUR FRIENDS! :)
I’ve also reworked my STORE page, now located at StoreEnvy. Be sure to check it out regularly to see all the cool goodies I’ll have for sale in the coming year. Additionally, I now have a Tumblr account mirroring this site, so if you’d like to follow me there, go for it!
SO, in summary, I’ll be making more long and rambling posts like this in the future as well as showing all the awesome peoples of the internet my new sketches and art. Please leave a comment and let me know what types of things you would like me to write about and don’t forget to sign up with your email address (under the SUBSCRIBE section to the right) so that you’ll never miss a post :) Thanks for reading, and I hope that 2014 fills your life with so much awesome stuff it makes your head spin!
